Obraz Edvarda Beneše v českých médiích v letech 1996-2019

The bachelor thesis analyzes the media image of Edvard Beneš in the Czech media between 1996-2019. The theoretical part of thesis deals with the view of historians Antoin Mar?s, Zbyněk Zeman and Jindřich Dejmek and the view of journalist Sidonie Dědinová to the figure of Edvard Beneš. The next chapter of the theoretical part deals with the most important places of memory associated with Beneš and the controversies that are associated with these places of memory. The last chapter is devoted to the Edvard Beneš Society and the Edvard Beneš Prize, which the Society partially sponsors. The empirical part deals with the analysis of articles published between 1996-2019. More specifically, the empirical part focuses on the changes in the frequency of publishing articles in this period in specific media. The main part of the work consists of an analysis of the view of articles on Beneš in the context of the most important historical events of which Beneš was a part, as well as an analysis of the view of Beneš's personality. The last chapter of the empirical part concerns reviews of books and biographies about Beneš.

Odsun - vyhnání českých Němců z Kaplicka pohledem pamětníků

This thesis follows up the topic of removal - expulsion of Czech Germans living in Czech borderland after the Second World War and it surveys the process of forced displacement in Kaplice and its surroundings in South Bohemia not only with provided data, but mainly with concrete stories. The Theoretical part focuses on the coexistence of Czechs and Germans in Czech territory and describes given historic circumstances which led to its bitter end. It endeavours to outline the process of removal and its consequences for Czechoslovakia. In the Practical part, the concrete stories of contemporary witnesses of the forced displacement complement the information about the process and consequences related to South Bohemian borderland. The main aim of this thesis is to ascertain what the contemporary witnesses think of this affair today.

Building an Intelligence Information Network in 1914-1918 on the example of "Czechoslovak Independence" and "La Nation Tchéque"

The diploma thesis analyses the topic of building a foreign intelligence network and its activities during the First World War (1914-1918) on the example of the Československá samostatnost and La Nation Tchéque magazines. The introduction maps the steps of Tomas Garrigue Masaryk after his emigration in 1914. Masaryk was the main personality of the whole foreign affair, but the thesis also deals with other representatives of the foreign resistance, such as Lev Sychrava, who was responsible for the issuing of Československá samostatnost, or Ernest Denis, who together with Edvard Beneš edited La Nation Tchéque. The work is based primarily on archival sources with special regard to the collection of the Editorial Offices of the Československá samostatnost and La Nation Tchéque, which is stored in the Military Historical Archive. This collection contains correspondence from both editorial offices, draft articles for both papers and other auxiliary materials from which the content of both papers was formed. The content of the entire collection is gradually revealed in the thesis. Czechoslovakia in the ideas of Edvard Benes at Paris Peace Conference in the years 1918-1919

The thesis focuses on the form changes of postwar Czechoslovakia at the Paris Peace Conference in 1918-1919 concerning the personality of Foreign Minister Edvard Benes and describtion and interpretation of his ideas, which were confronted with the reality of the political elites of the time and the views of the contemporary press. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the Benes's efforts related to the formation of postwar Czechoslovakia, his foreign anchorage, international guarantees and bonds, its borders and relations with neighboring countries, etc., whose final form we know, but we're not already familiar with their alternative tendencies and ideas, which changed at the Paris Peace conference.

February 1948 in the Presidential office

The aim of this thesis is not to describe again what happened in Czechoslovakia in February 1948, but to present the role of the Presidential office in that political crisis and the role of president Edvard Beneš himself - how much power he had and what could he really do to solve the crisis of that time. After the short introduction to the situation, which led us to the end of the Second World War, follows the presentation of the Presidential office with its departments and employees, who worked there and later published their memories about February 1948. The most important was the presidential chancelor Jaromír Smutný, who worked for a short time for the next president Klement Gottwald as well, and after that he escaped abroad. Their memoirs will be compared with the memoirs of other political icons of that time. Memories wrote nacional socialists Huber Ripka, Prokop Drtina and Ota Hora, communist Bed ich Rattinger was writing a diary in February 1948, the situation in the Presidential office described Jaromír Smutný, Miroslav Jirásek and František Škarvan. The other persons, who are important as well, are ambassador Eduard Táborský, Swedisch friend of Hana and Edvard Beneš Amelie Posse-Brázdová and journalist Ferdinand Peroutka. Edvard Beneš: foreign policy of the second Czechoslovak President and its development in 1938-1945

In this master's thesis I am researching the foreign policy of Edvard Beneš in 1938- 1945. Foreign policy of Czechoslovakia is closely linked to Beneš as he led it continuously since 1918 - first as a minister of foreign affairs and after 1935 as president. Beneš did reassess his foreign policy after the Munich Agreement and Czechoslovakia emerged from the World War II tightly connected to the Soviet Union without any western counterbalance. This shift in foreign policy subsequently led to transformation of Czechoslovakia into Soviet satellite which is frequent subject to criticism of Edvard Beneš. The goal of this thesis is to analyse the development of the second Czechoslovak President's foreign policy in 1938-1945 and to define the causes of the shift in the foreign policy of Czechoslovakia. I will be focusing mainly on the backgrounds of determining the foreign policy since Edvard Beneš' statements depended mainly on the audience. I want to accomplish that based on research of memoirs and many more documents. I will confront my interpretations of the primary sources with views from the secondary sources. One of the goals of this thesis is also to find out if it's possible to draw new and valuable conclusions by researching available primary sources.

Public Opinion on Post-War Transfer of Sudeten Germans and Beneš Decrees - October 2019

Currently, 52% respondents share the opinion that Beneš decrees should continue to be in force, 13% stood up for their cancellation, and 35% had no opinion on this issue. Another question focused on the post-war transfer of Sudeten Germans from Czech borderland in 1945-6. 41% of respondents considered this historical act to be just. On the contrary 38% marked the transfer as unjust (simultaneously majority of them claimed necessity to make a thick line behind the past) and 21 % had no opinion on this.
